From the very beginning of her public service in government - as the first African American to serve as the Director of Community Affairs in the City of Yonkers, Andrea Stewart-Cousins has espoused the values of empathy, empowerment and service. These values, coupled with her strong belief in advocating for the underserved and championing the needs of working families has distinguished her as a trailblazer in local and State government
Jeff Klein

New York State Senate

State Senator Jeff Klein is a proven leader with more than two decades of experience in politics, law and public service.

First elected to the New York State Senate in 2004 - appointed as Deputy Majority Leader in 2009 - Klein has built a reputation as an effective and trusted public servant who protects the vulnerable, fights injustice, promotes equality and defends individual rights.

Called "smart and hard-working" by the New York Times and "an active, independent voice" by the Journal News, Klein has authored numerous laws that directly impact the health, welfare and prosperity of the citizens of his district and the residents of New York State .

Mike Spano

New York State Assembly

Mike Spano, a lifelong Yonkers resident, was first elected to the State Assembly in 1992 as its youngest member. Due to the state’s reapportionment plan, his seat was eliminated later that same year. However, he ran again in 1994 and proudly served his constituents for over a decade.
Mike Spano is proud of his accomplishments on behalf of his constituents during his previous tenure in the state Assembly. In 2006, an initiative he proposed years before finally came to fruition. That legislation enables Yonkers to receive a direct portion of revenue from the video lottery terminals being installed at the Yonkers Raceway. It was an enormous victory for our city and our schools, producing a reoccurring revenue stream that we rely on for years to come.

Mike also led the fight to protect our communities from sex offenders and violent criminals. He was a lead advocate for the passage of New York’s Megan’s Law. Furthermore, as vice-chair of the Assembly’s Steering Committee and chair of the S.A.V.E. Task Force, he traveled throughout the state advocating for civil confinement of sexually violent predators and the Sexual Assault Reform Act. And, without question, Mike fought and will continue pushing for an equitable school funding formula for Yonkers and New York State.
Gary Pretlow

New York State Assembly

Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1992 to represent the 87th district, which includes Mount Vernon and Yonkers.

In 2005 the Honorable Sheldon Silver, Speaker, appointed Mr. Pretlow Chair of the Assembly Racing and Wagering Committee. He is also a member of the Assembly committees on Rules, Ways and Means, Codes, Insurance, Cities, and the Assembly Steering Committee. In addition Gary is a member of the New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, Inc., a member of the Black and Puerto Rican Legislative Caucus and the NYS Senate and Assembly Hispanic Taskforce.

Among the many significant pieces of legislation Assemblyman Pretlow has enacted into law, he is most proud of the passage Cynthia’s law. A provision of this law establishes reckless assault of a child as a class D felony. Furthermore, Cynthia’s law raises awareness for shaken baby syndrome by establishing an educational campaign to inform the public of the harm that may result from shaking a young child.
Cuomo Andrew Cuomo

Governor

Throughout his life, Andrew Cuomo has been a forceful voice for change in New York.  His lifelong commitment to hard work, public service, and the people he serves has led to Andrew's recognition as a true innovator and a principled and determined leader.

His leadership as Attorney General has led to numerous industry-wide investigations -- exposing corrupt practices within both Albany and the private sector.  He has been tenacious and unwavering in bringing widespread reform to industries that have abused the public trust and in bringing to justice individuals who have violated the law.  And in doing so, he has recovered billions of dollars for New York’s citizens.

As the Attorney General of New York, Andrew has initiated a dramatic and historic expansion of the Civil Rights Bureau, won landmark decisions forcing the E.P.A. to enforce pollution laws, and achieved new standards in government transparency and accountability.

Andrew's strong values and demonstrated ability to achieve results stem from a grand tradition of service – a tradition that began in Queens, New York.

1. Propositions on the ballot address mayoral succession and appointments.

Under the proposed succession change, the deputy mayor would succeed the mayor, followed by the City Council president and then by eight department heads. NO

2. The second proposed charter change addresses mayoral appointments. Current rules require the City Council to vote on a nominee within 45 days. The change would consider a nominee approved if the council takes no action within 45 days. NO
